In many parts of the world, including the United States, women are vastly underrepresented in technology fields. Sometimes the gender imbalance begins in early schooling; other times the issue doesn't become acute until university or graduate school and into the workforce. Professor Widom brings a unique perspective as a woman who has studied and worked in the U.S. technology sector for over 30 years, including both industry and academia, raising a family along the way!

A Roundtable Discussion

Professor Widom facilitates an informal 1-2 hour roundtable discussion. Both men and women are welcome at the sessions, although in some cases an all-woman format leads to a more open and productive discussion.

Topics may include (but are not limited to): societal and family expectations; gender stereotypes and unconscious bias; different learning and working styles; imposter syndrome; benefits of diverse teams; role models and mentorship; reverse discrimination and its consequences; pregnancy and young children; balancing career and family.
